Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
Regulate. Soften. Connect
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a research-backed listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system and reduce auditory sensitivities. Grounded in polyvagal theory, SSP supports greater emotional resilience, safety, and connection in both body and relationships.
SSP is not a traditional therapy intervention—it is a foundational nervous system support that helps create the conditions for healing to occur.
We offer SSP in-person in Gold River, CA and virtually across California, facilitated by certified SSP providers trained in trauma-informed, neurodiversity aware, and neurodivergent affirming care.
What Is the Safe and Sound Protocol?
The Safe and Sound Protocol is a non-invasive, evidence-based listening program developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, grounded in the science of the vagus nerve and the nervous system.
Through specially filtered music, SSP gently trains the middle ear muscles and brain pathways to better detect and respond to cues of safety—reducing auditory sensitivity and improving regulation.

FAQs- Let’s Explore If SSP Is Right for You
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking increased nervous system regulation, SSP may offer the gentle shift you’ve been looking for.
Is SSP therapy?
Yes—SSP is a listening therapy that supports nervous system regulation. It is not a mental health therapy but is a body-based therapy and can complement psychotherapy, coaching, or other wellness supports.
Can I do SSP remotely?
Yes. We offer virtual SSP delivery for clients anywhere in California. We also offer in-person support in Gold River, CA. We will help you determine what’s best for your needs and capacity.
Is SSP safe for everyone?
SSP is gentle, but because it works with the nervous system, we take great care to co-create safety, readiness, and pacing. It’s not a “one-size-fits-all” process, and we move at the pace your system can handle. We will always check in and adjust as needed.
Can SSP help with trauma?
SSP does not treat trauma directly, but it can help the body feel safer and more regulated, which may support deeper trauma work. Many clients find SSP helps reduce shutdown, hypervigilance, or sensory overwhelm, and increases their capacity to engage in healing.
